Methodist Healthcare Ministries (MHM) is the largest private funding source for healthcare services to the uninsured and under-served in South Texas. MHM is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing medical, dental, and health-related human services to low-income families. They carry out their mission of “Serving Humanity to Honor God” by improving the physical, mental and spiritual health of those least served.
MHM addresses medical, dental and behavioral health needs at its two primary care clinics in San Antonio – Wesley Health & Wellness Center and Dixon Health & Wellness Center. Healthcare services are available on a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay, household income and family size. They also provide access to counseling and social services, family wellness and parenting programs, and church-based community nursing programs – all for people who cannot afford health insurance. MHM offers a Community Health Worker program and Get FIT prevention program for its 74-county service area.
MHM partners with several organizations that prioritize access to quality healthcare to fulfill the needs of the underserved in South Texas. Since 1996, they have invested over $281 million in grants to improve community healthcare. They also work with state and federal governments to research and advocate for legislative policies that positively impact the needs of the uninsured.
Characteristic of every institution in the South Texas Medical Center, MHM team members are caring servants who lead with the core values of integrity, teamwork and compassion. They embrace a holistic approach to healthcare: mind, body and spirit.
As one of the most trusted sources of healthcare needs in South Texas, MHM changes lives by providing quality care and improving wellness of the least served right here in the Medical Center.
